Ukraine's top-ranked tennis player, Marta Kostyuk, spoke exclusively to BTU.ORG.UA about her preparation for the Australian Open 2025.Exclusive: Marta Kostyuk on Australian Open - "My first full practice was just two days before Brisbane" - Marta, the first tournaments of the season didn’t yield the best results for you, but you gained valuable match practice in Australia. How do you assess your readiness for the Australian Open? "It was important for us that I could compete in the first tournament of the season. We approached these matches calmly, viewing them as part of the training process I missed due to injury. The primary goal was to regain my rhythm, and in that sense, these tournaments served their purpose." - There were reports during your preseason training about a muscle tear. Is this true, and how much did it impact your preparation for the season? "Yes, I did experience a tear, though not of a muscle - it was in another very problematic area, which significantly complicated my preparation. The injury happened midway through my training camp and disrupted our plans. My first full practice session with proper rallies was just two days before my opening singles match in Brisbane. That said, I now feel well-prepared for the Australian Open and eagerly await my debut match." - You face Japan’s Nao Hibino in the first round. You’ve beaten her twice before, though it was some time ago. She’s coming off an impressive qualification run. What are your thoughts on this draw? "I try not to judge the draw because every match is a new story. A strong opponent can have an off day, while a less experienced player might deliver their best performance. For me, the priority is to prepare well, focus on my game, and do everything I can to win." - Are you planning to compete in doubles or mixed doubles in Melbourne? "Yes, I’ll be playing doubles with Elena-Gabriela Ruse." - Last year, your Wilson dresses became a highlight of every major tournament, earning you a spot in nearly all the top seasonal fashion lists. Should we expect something new this year? "I love the dress I’ll be wearing in Melbourne. It’s already received a lot of positive feedback from those who’ve seen it (laughs). I’ve also had the chance to preview several new collections for this year, and I really liked them. I’m looking forward to stepping onto the court and hope to go as far as possible to wear this wonderful outfit for as long as I can (laughs)."
